Oriental ceramics has a long history: in China, Japan and Korea pottery making can be traced back to the Neolithic period.

        The Chinese started exporting porcelain wares to the West in large volume during the late 16th / early 17th century.  This export trade has continued ever since.  The Japanese export trade in porcelain in volume started about the middle of the 19th century and, as with the Chinese trade, continues to this day.  The result being that for today’s Western collector of Oriental ceramics, there is much to choose from.  The value range is wide; from rare and very expensive antique items through to inexpensive late 20th century ones.  Although there may be a tendency to overlook this mass-produced late 20th century ware, much of it is actually of very good quality and, I believe, collectible
